The Protest has released their new single “Cloudwalker,” going for adds at rock radio now. The song is a relentless rock quest for peace, marked by riff-heavy classic rock stylings behind the searching lyrics. You can find it at https://ffm.to/v5j41zj.
“‘Cloudwalker’ has been in the works for over 5 years and is very special to us,” explains lead singer Josh Bramlett. “The song is a brainchild of our lead guitarist, Sarge. When he brought it to the table, we all really fell in love with the vibe. Once we all put our stamp on it with riffs, melodies and lyric ideas, it became one of our personal favorites! The song features one of our favorite vocal bridges and some of our favorite guitar parts.”
Where recent tracks from The Protest have shown that they can lean towards the heavy end of the spectrum, this midtempo rock track showcases The Protest’s mastery of the genre’s hallmarks, with complex, searching riffs and an arena-sized sound that references greats like Foo Fighters, Journey and Aerosmith.
As Josh Bramlett explains it, “‘Cloudwalker’ is all about the desperate search for true peace and where to find it. None of us is immune to pain and suffering. That’s what makes us human. In a way, we are all united by the simple fact that life can be so hard. Storms can rage inside us, and it’s easy to let the lightning and thunder govern our lives. However, we believe that beyond our ‘turbulent skies’ lies a peace that transcends understanding. Without mincing words or beating around the bush, we believe that this peace comes only from a relationship with Jesus. This relationship doesn’t mean that life will be without storms, but it does mean we have the opportunity to focus on a tangible hope. At the end of the day, we want the listener to know that beyond the downpours of life, there is a beautiful and clear sky where we can all become Cloudwalkers.”
That transcendent energy infuses “Cloudwalker” with deep hope, offering listeners the opportunity to step above the storms in their own life. It provides a contrast with the musically and thematically heavy “Griefcase” and “Chains are for Breaking,” the prior two singles from The Protest.
“A lot of people like Heavy Protest, and we do too, but for this particular song we channeled our inner Foo Fighters with a dash of Sent by Ravens to create what we hope is an encouraging track for listeners,” Josh says, playfully describing where the song landed. “‘Cloudwalker’ was meant to be belted out on a summer day from the front seat of your car with all the windows down.”
Add “Cloudwalker” to your own summer music rotation now. The track is the latest from the forthcoming album from The Protest, fully fan-funded. You can keep up with all things The Protest, including future album news, at https://bio.to/theprotestrocks.
