Poor Old Lu have announced a new campaign to re-release what the band calls "the most pivotal album of our career" -- *A Picture of the Eighth Wonder* -- on vinyl, CD, and high-resolution digital formats.
"On the heels of our 1995 EP, *Straight Six*, we set out to change course once again and record an album unlike anything we'd done previously," the band shared. "We wanted something a bit darker, moodier, and with higher production value. The resulting album - *A Picture of the Eighth Wonder* - arguably became our magnum opus. Now thirty years later, we're excited to re-release the most pivotal album of our career onto the most fitting format for the material - vinyl."
For the new release, Poor Old Lu are going back to the original source recordings -- the 2" reels -- and remixing the album from the ground up. The band emphasized that the intent is not to reinvent or "fix" the album, but to preserve the spirit of the original while improving its sonic quality.
"This isn't about 'fixing what was broken' - the goal is to remix as near to the 1996 version as possible - but rather to improve upon the original sonically, with greater energy, and to release those mixes onto high-resolution streaming, CD, and, of course, 180g premium vinyl," the band explained.
According to the announcement, every order for the *A Picture of the Eighth Wonder* CD or vinyl will also include a digital, downloadable copy of the album.
The campaign will also include a bonus for fans who order the CD or vinyl: a digital download of the band's previously unreleased live audio from their Seattle show in September 2025. Titled *At The Showbox*, the complete Seattle set has been mixed and mastered for wide release, with campaign backers who purchase the CD or vinyl receiving the download first.
The band has also announced a stretch goal for the campaign. If the campaign reaches $24,000, all backers who purchased *A Picture of the Eighth Wonder* on CD or vinyl will receive *At The Showbox* on CD as well as digital.
Poor Old Lu noted that work has already begun on the project, including mixing, artwork preparation, and coordination with vendors, with the goal of getting the album to manufacturing before the campaign concludes. Samples of the new mix and album can be found on the campaign page.
"The goal is (and has always been) the highest quality product that we can put out," the band said. "The best source material, the best mastering work, and the highest quality recordings that we can release. If we can't make it the very best, then we'd prefer not to do it at all."
