Indianapolis, IN — Tyscot Records, the nation's oldest operating Black-owned gospel recording company, will commemorate its historic 50th anniversary with a spectacular Midnight Homecoming Concert on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) 111th International Summer Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gospel legend John P. Kee, who began his career with Tyscot Records, will headline the concert which also features other Tyscot alumni such as the dynamic vocalist Ruth La'Ontra and the Grammy® Award nominated singer/songwriter Jason Clayborn.
Dentist Dr. Leonard Scott and his nephew, the late L. Craig Tyson, founded Tyscot Records in 1976. They created the label when they couldn't obtain a major label to release their church, the Christ Apostolic Church Radio Choir's debut LP, Feel Good. Initially, the company was run out of Scott's dental practice. After several years as an expensive hobby as Scott once joked, Tyscot finally began to make money by the early 1980s. Over the years, the company has discovered aspiring artists who went on to become some of the biggest names in the genre such as John P. Kee, VaShawn Mitchell, Bri Babineaux, Deitrick Haddon, as well as the platinum-selling, Anthony Brown & group therAPy.
The 50th Anniversary Homecoming Concert will serve as both a celebration of Tyscot's remarkable legacy and a look toward its future. "This milestone represents much more than an anniversary," said Bryant Scott, President of Tyscot Records. "For 50 years, Tyscot has been blessed to provide a platform for artists whose music has strengthened faith, inspired hope, and transformed lives. We are honored to celebrate this achievement in our hometown of Indianapolis during one of the largest gatherings in the church world."
The concert coincides with the 2026 Pentecostal Assemblies of the World International Summer Convention, which returns to Indianapolis from July 19-25 and is expected to attract thousands of attendees from around the globe. The evening will begin with a VIP Honors Reception at 8:00 p.m., followed by the Homecoming Concert at 11:00 p.m. The event takes place at the JW Marriott, 10 S. West Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204. https://tyscot.ticketspice.com/tyscot50indy
