August 7, 2026 // 3x GRAMMY® winner and Billboard's Gospel Artist of the Decade Tasha Cobbs Leonard has announced her new live album, TASHA UNSCRIPTED, arriving September 11 via Motown Gospel/Capitol Christian Music Group. Alongside the announcement, Cobbs Leonard releases "Gracefully Broken/Who the Son Sets Free (Live)" featuring Israel Houghton, accompanied by an official live video. The sweeping performance moves from surrender into freedom, bringing together two beloved worship songs through the spontaneity and vocal power at the heart of the forthcoming album.
Recorded before a live audience, TASHA Unscripted brings Cobbs Leonard back to the setting where many of the most defining moments of her career have taken shape. Rather than simply recreating familiar songs, the album lets them open into new arrangements while preserving the audience response and unexpected turns that could only happen in the room. The evening brought together beloved selections from Cobbs Leonard's catalog with brand-new music and appearances from Mickey Guyton, Jonathan McReynolds, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, William Murphy, Israel Houghton and more. The result is an intimate portrait of Cobbs Leonard in her most natural element, allowing faith and musical instinct to guide each moment as it unfolds.
"After stepping into a quieter, more intimate creative space with TASHA, I felt called back to the room, to the kind of night where you cannot predict what God will do next," says Cobbs Leonard. "TASHA Unscripted captures what happened when we made space for the songs to breathe and for people to respond in real time. The new album follows Cobbs Leonard's critically acclaimed 2025 release, TASHA, her first-ever studio album after more than a decade of landmark live projects. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums, Current Gospel Album and Top Christian/Gospel Album charts, introducing an expansive sound that moved freely across gospel, R&B, hip-hop, pop and roots influences. TASHA also produced the #1 Billboard Gospel Airplay hit "Church" featuring John Legend. Cobbs Leonard and Legend later performed the GRAMMY-nominated collaboration on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, creating a rare national late-night spotlight for gospel music. Cobbs Leonard also delivered a standout performance during the GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony.
Cobbs Leonard will bring the spirit of the new album to audiences across the country this fall with the TASHA UNSCRIPTED NIGHTS TOUR. Built around the spontaneity of the Atlanta recording, the tour is designed as an intimate live experience where no two evenings will unfold in exactly the same way. Each performance will draw from Cobbs Leonard's celebrated catalog while incorporating new music and personal storytelling. The format also leaves room for spirit-led moments shaped by the energy of each audience. The album announcement arrives during another landmark season for Cobbs Leonard. On August 15, she will receive the Aretha Franklin Icon Award at the 41st Stellar Gospel Music Awards in Charlotte, recognizing her extraordinary career and global influence as one of the defining cultural leaders of her generation. Cobbs Leonard also enters this year's ceremony with six Stellar Award nominations, placing her among the most-nominated artists of 2026. Her recognition includes Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year.
Last week, she added three nominations for the 2026 GMA Dove Awards: Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year, Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.The latest nominations build upon an awards run that includes two 2026 GRAMMY nominations for TASHA and "Church," three BET Award nominations, and Cobbs Leonard's first NAACP Image Award win for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album.
With TASHA Unscripted, Cobbs Leonard begins a new chapter while returning to the live foundation that transformed her into one of gospel music's most influential voices. The album does not attempt to contain what happened in Atlanta. It invites listeners into the room and allows them to experience it for themselves.
