ADWR's Fervor, My Dear has released the brand new track "Glass In the Sugar," an introduction to an eerie synth-pop concept album titled Beneath Oranjezaal. The single is available to stream everywhere now.
The mysterious concept album is based around a real-life ballroom in the Netherlands, which is surrounded by legends about alleged hauntings.
"I use the lore surrounding the real life ballroom as a backdrop for the fictional story told by the album's songs, each of which come from the point of view of a different fictional ghost that I've written a backstory for," explains D.Z. Cromwell, the mastermind behind Fervor, My Dear. "'Glass in the Sugar' deals with the theme that although all things may be permissible, not all things are beneficial, as found in Biblical passages such as 1 Corinthians 10:23. The song comes from the point of view of a ghost who is haunted by mistakes made in his former life -- mistakes with dire consequences that impacted the people around him."
As atmospheric as it is ambitious, "Glass In the Sugar" is darkly beautiful as it shimmers through synth-heavy reflections and regrets. With a handpainted cover from one of Fervor, My Dear's labelmates, the full experience that results is a true work of art. Despite it arcane origins, the lyrics are sure to resonate deeply with anyone who has experienced their own remorse:
"Shards ever piercing, eyes ever weeping
Blood through the ages is now seeping
Glass in the sugar
These crystals come together
For worse or for better, to them we are all tethered."
"In a way, a part of me is seen in that fictional ghost," muses Cromwell. "I've made mistakes in my life that felt good at that time but had lasting consequences on myself and others. Overindulging in things that may not even necessarily be bad in and of themselves may taste like sugar, but it can cut like glass at the end of the day."
The single is the first taste of what listeners can expect from the upcoming high-narrative set of songs. Visit https://linktr.ee/fervormydear to find Fervor, My Dear's music on all streaming services.
