Michigan indie rock artist Nobody's Uncle has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the physical release of Kiss the Son, the 13-song follow-up to debut album Mercy Diorama.
The artist returns with a record that continues his blend of melodic guitar-driven rock and honest, story-focused songwriting. Drawing from the '90s alternative and early-2000s indie and emo scene, Kiss the Son combines chiming guitars, ear-worm melodies, and folk-inspired storytelling with lyrics rooted in Christian faith.
The album's title comes from Psalm 2, which calls people to "Kiss the Son" -- a picture of surrender and refuge in Christ. Throughout the record, that idea takes different forms as the songs examine the things people tend to trust in when they struggle to surrender control: achievement, comfort, approval, intelligence, and other substitutes for dependence on God.
"I wouldn't necessarily call it a concept album," says Nobody's Uncle. "But as the songs came together, I kept finding myself writing about the same underlying struggle: how easily we reach for something we can control when what God is asking us to do is trust Him."
The Kickstarter will fund the production of physical CDs, apparel, packaging, shipping, and other costs associated with the independent release. Several reward tiers are available, including CDs, T-shirts, and signed and numbered editions. The campaign runs through October 30, 2026, and is live now at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nobodysunclemusic/kiss-the-son-album-2-from-nobodys-uncle.
