33Miles
One Life

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 10 tracks: 39 minutes, 39 seconds
Street Date: September 16, 2008

Barely 17 months after their debut, trio 33Miles returns with One Life. The country-pop sound established in their eponymous debut is a mainstay for this album as well, and even adds a little more southern flavor. While the debut relied mostly on slower songs, this album has a better mixture of upbeat and slow tunes. The upbeat country-fused opener "Gone" is really similar to the debut in sound and theme, and even sounds a lot like "What Could Be Better." The first radio single, "One Life To Love," definitely pays homage to their country roots, serving as a touching story-song, a style popular among today's country music. Other highlights include the powerful "Jesus Calling" and the gorgeous piano-ballad, "Apologize."

However, after that song, things die down a bit, and tracks six through ten don't measure up to the album's first half. "When It All Comes Down" and "I Loved You Then" remain in a safe zone and sound like typical 33Miles songs. Likewise, "My Offering" is a nice attempt at a worship song, but is forgettable.

Vocally, the group is at its strongest, providing never-failing comparisons to Rascal Flatts, and rightfully so. While drawing obvious inspirations from country music, the lead singer's vocals also have a pop sensibility, which keeps both styles intertwined into the music.

One Life is a decent sophomore effort from 33Miles, overall. The first half of the album is the strongest, and the vocal qualities are top-notch. 33Miles does a good job of mixing the country influences with a little pop - perfect for CCM.
