Following their recent name change from CXMMXNS to Commons Worship, founders Ben Fielding and Reuben Morgan are marking the new chapter with new music: "Saved by Grace" out August 7 on all major streaming platforms - the first release in a twelve-month promise to worship leaders everywhere: a new song, every month, on the same day.
"We changed our name and dropped a song on the same day, because we wanted the first thing people heard from us as Commons Worship to be a promise, not just an announcement" said Fielding and Morgan. "One song a month, every month, for a year. Something you can actually plan your Sunday around."
The Heart Behind the Song
"Saved by Grace" is built on Ephesians 2:8-9 - that we are saved by grace, through faith.
"If salvation depended on us, on our good days outweighing our bad, it would be as fragile as we are" said Fielding and Morgan. "But grace cannot fail, because it was never earned by us to begin with. It rests on Him, not on us." The song also carries the promise of Jeremiah 31:34 and Hebrews 8:12 - that God remembers our sins no more. "Grace has already answered for it" they said. "Grace alone, full stop, nothing added. Let the anxious heart be still - grace has had the final word."
A Song Built for the Room You're Actually In
"Saved by Grace" continues Commons Worship's focus on songs shaped for real congregations - not the biggest stage, but the ordinary Sunday. The song is written and produced with the actual worship team in mind: the volunteer band, the single acoustic guitar, the church without a full production budget.
"Most of the churches we're serving aren't necessarily large churches, and we know most worship leaders aren't leading with ten-piece bands," the pair shared. "We wanted this song, and every song after it, to sound like it belongs in that room. Not a
scaled-down version of something else but actually built for it."
What to Expect Moving Forward
"We know worship leaders are planning setlists weeks and months in advance," said Fielding and Morgan. "Our goal is to serve that process, not compete with it. If you know a Commons Worship song is coming the same day every month, you can actually plan around it. That's the whole idea."
"Saved by Grace" is available September 4 on all major streaming platforms.
