Come Alive: Live from the CentricWorship Retreat

Genre(s): Worship / Live
Album length: 7 tracks: 34 minutes, 4 seconds
Street Date: November 10, 2014

The Christian community is inundated with worship music that falls between traditionalism and modernism. CentricWorship, a new record label from Centricity Publishing, took notice that believers are no longer just singing songs during congregational worship services, but are incorporating worship into the daily soundtrack of their lives. With this realization in mind, comes a batch of songs that are appropriate both in and out of a Sunday morning service.

Come Alive: Live from the CentricWorship Retreat has taken the initiative to revive worship in church congregations. The EP is comprised of artists Lauren Daigle, Corey Voss, Jonathan Lee, Henry Seeley, and BJ Putnam. Many worship albums tend to be filled with trite language and disengaging metaphors. However, Come Alive is a different kind of music for the church. There's a story being told by each vocalist that continually brings us back to the theme of coming alive in Christ.

The passionate and transparent opening song, "Greater Is He," sung by Jonathan Lee says, "No longer defeated / for the power of Jesus / has risen / has conquered / now living in me." Lee's husky and powerful voice helps to passionately convey the idea that the old has passed and the new is coming by the power of Jesus. The upbeat and catchy "Consume Us," by Corey Voss says, "When you speak I feel it in my bones / when you breathe I come alive…" This track is a standout on the album and leads nicely into Lauren Daigle's "Come Alive (Dry Bones)," originally from her How Can It Be EP. The song is beckoning the "dead hearts" and "dry bones" to come alive, and it encapsulates the overarching theme of the entire EP.

BJ Putnam's "More and More" unites worshippers and is a celebratory moment that draws us back home to the idea of being alive in Christ. Voss follows and closes the album with "Worthy is the Lamb." The song is a balm for the healing that is taking place as passion for Christ is being rediscovered.

Come Alive isn't your typical collection of Sunday morning music that disconnects the listener from drawing closer to God. It's a collection of songs that can soften hearts that have been hardened toward what modern worship is, and will revive various church congregations. Come Alive is a welcome change to the pool of worship songs that are played in churches across America.
