The Katinas
Still

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 10 tracks: 38 minutes, 35 seconds
Street Date: August 19, 2008

The Katinas' Still serves as an exciting continuation of 2005's Timeless. The work the Samoan brothers put in this album is reflected in any track of this album. It was about three years in the making, and it was definitely worth the wait.

The Katinas start out with a couple songs that really get you excited for what's to come on Still. "Because" arguably the album's best track, is a powerful reminder of one of the greatest reasons why we worship and love a wonderful God; because He is faithful. "Alive" continues the upbeat ambience of the album with lyrics that support the feeling of being alive and understanding that it is only because of God that it is so. These two tracks certainly prepare the listener to hear more as the album unfolds into the third song, "Praying For You." It is a beautiful song that has garnered airtime on many radio stations around the nation. It's the ballad on the record that reminds those who are stumbling down difficult paths to rely on God, know that it's not over, and to just trust in His plans. The lyrics provide encouragement and hope to anyone going through trials, along with a piano driven tune that resembles recent music of Phil Wickham.

My personal favorite would be "Praise," as it brings quite a few elements to one song of worship. It starts out with some a cappella that may remind listeners of melodies from the Destiny era. The drum and guitars follow twenty seconds into the song after a slight pause from the vocals. Shortly after, the brass comes in as the volume escalates and brings us into the groove of the first verse. The saxophone is quite evident to feed the upbeats until the brass accompanies it with the keyboards. These instruments along with strong lead guitars bring us into the fast-paced chorus where anyone could just feel like jumping into the air or dancing as if they were at a show watching them live.

The rest of the album slows down a little to feature vocals a bit more and to continue the worship. "Fade" is a wonderful prayer with soothing background vocals. It can cetainly move a willing soul into a relaxing state of worship. The Katinas also performed an excellent rendition of Brenton Brown's "Everlasting God." It simply couldn't have been recorded any better by them.

Those of you who have listened to The Katinas for quite some time will certainly be pleased with this release. Still contains the smooth vocals of the Samoan guys, still has the powerful energetic choruses for which they have been known for, and still provides the listener with plenty of new grooves to enjoy.
