11. Alive

Rise
by Building 429

Can you believe, that all this time has passed us
And all we were has left us, wishing we were there again
We’re all older now, but we still fall down and scrape our knees

Well I can’t believe that all these lines keep getting deeper
I watch children become fathers as their mothers weep,
And I can see somehow, that it’s all about here and now.
But I feel something rushing over me and I’m alive
I’m alive
I feel something rushing over me and I’m alive
I’m alive
Thank God I’m alive

You’re speaking to me through the beauty of creation
from the highest elevation, to the depths of seas
So I’m not afraid to face this life of brevity

‘Cause I feel something rushing over me and I’m alive
I’m alive
I feel something rushing over me and I’m alive
I’m alive
Thank God I’m alive

We’re alive, to glorify
We’re alive, to glorify
We’re alive, to glorify, the maker of this life
We’re alive, to glorify, the maker of this life

written by Jason Roy, Scotty Beshears, Michael Anderson, Jesse Garcia

Behind the Song:
'I remember heading home to Texas last spring with a bunch of rough demos that we finished the week before – listening over and over to this song and feeling so, well, “alive.” As I pondered this overwhelming feeling, I realized that I felt alive because I was doing what I was designed to do: I was worshipping. Without knowing it I had been caught up in the wonder of God’s creation. Every tree, every mountain, every cloud in the sky outside our car window was capturing my imagination and made me feel the awe of the Lord. As we rolled through Arkansas, the phrase “we’re alive to glorify the maker of this life” rolled through my head over and over again. I had planned to change that line because it always seemed way too simple. Then it smacked me between the eyes – it is that simple! In its essence, this song is a look at life and the simplicity of our existence…what we were made to do and why we live in abundance when we live inside of our calling.' - Jason Roy (Building 429)
