"In keeping with the theme of recovery from addiction, Fyrebrand writes a brutal and bittersweet word of caution to the listener," shares singer Josiah Brand. "Though you might have left the vices of your past behind you, do not become complacent; the hooks found their way into you once, they'll find their way back if you let them."

The song follows Fyrebrand's signature ferocious style, building up industrial sounds behind metal influences for a powerful gut-punch of a track. "Hooks" follows past releases from Fyrebrand that also deal with mental health and the harder parts of the human condition — songs like "Just Go Away," "This Is War" and "Venom." "Hooks" was released with goth-industrial label AD Windblown Media Records.

Lyrically, the song acknowledges the struggles of surviving addiction while surrendering to the sovereignty of God to continue fighting another day. As the chorus declares:

"The scars from the hooks of this vice is proof it can come back again

Avoiding the snares set before me, hiding the Word deep within."

The song promises to offer a bracing dose of encouragement to anyone who has dealt with substance abuse or any other kind of addiction.
