12. Blaze Of Glory

Adios: The Greatest Hits (Special Edition)
by Audio Adrenaline

It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high
And you open up your heart and soul
But that's not enough for most, no!

I remember this much
There is nothing
You shouldn't speak of
When you've got something to say

Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything you want from me
There is nothing left to hide
Oh, no!

The law of the jungle says
You look after yourself
But I remember this much
I love as I've been loved myself
Don't forget what I told you now
When the question keeps on a coming
And it's 'How much more can you take' but you keep on...

Going out in a blaze of glory
Settinh you sights on the sky
They can offer you anything at all
But your dreams must not be sold
Going out in a blaze of glory
No price is high enough
I'm fighting back with feeling
I'm fighting back with love

And the nails are hammer into your hands and the cross is heavy
Keep on
Don't you know that it's time to make a stand
It's time to make a stand

Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything you want from me
There is nothing left to hide
Oh, going out in a blaze of glory
My hands are held up high
I'm learning how to hit back
Yes, I'm learning how to fight

Going out in a blaze of glory

Written by M. Peters & E. MacDonald ©1983 Bugle Songs Ltd. (BMI) / Produced by Jay Joyce, Jason Burkum, Mark Stuart, and Will McGinniss (originally performed by The Alarm)

Behind the Song:
“ ‘Blaze Of Glory’ is a song by the Alarm and it’s so funny because when Mark first walked into my room after my mom had said, ‘Hey, my son plays bass, you should go get him to be in your band,’ he saw posters all over my walls of my favorite bands. The Alarm was one of the posters that was up and it was from a record called ‘Declaration.’ I listened to that record like nonstop forever. I was just blown away by the power and passion and the honesty of the lyrics. We actually thought about recording the song for ‘Worldwide,’ but it just didn’t seem to fit what we were doing with that record, so we put it on the back burner. Then, when we were getting ready to write again two new songs for this Greatest Hits, I was like, ‘why don’t we look at ‘Blaze of Glory’ again?’ It just blew me away. The energy of it lined up perfectly on how we would want to go out as a band--almost like it’s better to burn out than to fade away kind of thing. So we thought it was very appropriate for us.” - Will McGinniss (Audio Adrenaline)
