With Christmas just around the corner, you can expect many Christian artists to be churning out their own Christmas mixes. Ginny Owens is among the ranks, and with four full-length albums under her belt, she brings forth her first Christmas project, Bring Us Peace.
You'll find on this album some familiar Christmas classics as well as some of Ginny's own creations. Starting off the disc is "Christmas All The Time," an intricate ballad expressing how we need to take time to reflect on the birth of our Savior during the hustle-and-bustle of the Christmas holiday. Following the opener are many other sentimental tunes including, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," the jazzy, soulful "Nothin' For Christmas," the blissful, captivating "In The Bleak Midwinter," the lulling, piano piece "This Is Christmas" (which also showcases Christ's birth and how He came to save us and bring us peace and salvation), and "O Come, O Come Emanuel," which happens to be the longest track on the release as well as being the closing song.
For starters, Owens did a great job on her Christmas debut. Despite being blind for nearly her whole life, she has managed to push past her disability and let God use her in remarkable ways. Not only does she have a sweet, soothing voice, but she knows how to take thought-provoking lyrics and harmonizing music and have them mesh well together.
Bring Us Peace is a decent album in and of itself. With a little more mixture of different instruments, Ginny Owens can make music that may suit everyone's interests this holiday season.
