The first time I heard of Canon was on Lecrae's Overdose album, and then came last year's "How We Do," and I was wowed by his stellar speed rapping skills. So, with a handful of music already available, the Chicago native now residing in the ATL brings us Loose Canon Vol. 2, courtesy of Reflection Music.
Loose Canon Vol. 2 opens with "Go Off" and "Trippen," which is exactly what I recalled from my first hearing of Canon: ultra-quick spitting laid on tremendous beats making for solid rap tunes for all rap heads to enjoy. Songs like "Point Of View" and "Common Sense" offer a more personal side with a focus of being true to yourself and being sure to see what God wants from our lives. Both tracks come out as decent listens. "Reach Into The Night" reminds me of something from an Usher album. The latter half of the EP offers the best music as Canon sticks to his strong suits of lyrical tempo and superb production. "Put Me On" and "Dreams" are examples of that method of turning out great tunes that we all can pump our fist or nod our heads to.
The biggest misstep here would be "Motivation" (both versions), which comes out totally disjointed and doesn't flow well at all. Overall, If you haven't heard from Canon or if you're looking for something new to add to your rap collection, this is a good place to start.
