When Covid-19 reared its ugly head in 2020, I felt led to begin praying all of Psalm 91 over myself and my loved ones daily. I had always prayed parts of this amazing psalm over us for many years, but now I was memorizing and confessing every single verse. This morning when I began declaring it out loud, the Holy Spirit enabled me to see verse 4 in fresh, new ways. "He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." The Spirit of God spoke to me and said, "God's faithfulness will be your protection." I thought about the Amplified translation of this verse which says, "His faithfulness is a shield and a wall."
Then, the Holy Spirit reminded me of Hebrews 11:11 (NIV), which reads, "And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise." What was the Spirit trying to tell me? That God's faithfulness has the power to protect me and my family from harm, but ONLY if I truly believe and trust in His faithfulness.
Chapter 4 of the Book of Hebrews gives a stark warning to those who doubt God. "For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it." (Hebrews 4:2 NKJV) We can read, memorize, and declare God's Word and promises all day long, but if we don't "mix them with faith," they will do us no good. What we have to remember is that real faith is not a feeling or emotion - it's a decision. That means that no matter how we are feeling at any given time, we can declare with conviction, "I choose to believe God!"
Perhaps you are facing a troubling situation right now that is just begging for some divine intervention. Allow me to leave you with this word of encouragement from the Lord today - "Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful to His Word"! (Hebrews 10:23 AMP)
Prayer: Lord, fill me with a sincere passion and love for Your Word, and help me to spend time in it every day in some way, so that I can cooperate with You for the building of my faith. Teach me how to resist doubt and fear as soon as they come against me, and enable me to mix my faith with Your Word and Your promises in every situation and circumstance. Thank You that as I continually consider You faithful, You will shield and shelter me from every kind of harm!
