This verse is one of many in the "Faith Hall of Fame" in Hebrews Chapter 11. Here, Abraham is honored because, when God commanded him to leave his country and family behind to go to a land the Lord "would show him" (Genesis 12:1), he "obeyed and went." The Scripture adds, ". . . even though he did not know where he was going." I can almost see Abraham gathering all his belongings, saying goodbye to his relatives and friends, and then heading off in the direction God pointed him in. That's amazing enough, but can you imagine the exchange every time he met someone on the way and they asked him, "So, where you headed, Abraham?" "Gee, I don't know. God just told me to leave everything behind and head off in this direction." More than once, I'm sure he heard, "You're a fool, Abraham!"

Maybe God is telling you today to set off in a new direction. To leave your comfort zone behind. To head out into the unknown. Perhaps the Lord is leading you a certain way, but He hasn't given you any clue what's up ahead. God sees the "big picture," but usually, He only reveals to us a small piece of the puzzle at a time. If He showed us more, we might run the other way out of fear. Or we might feel like we could find our own way without Him. Considering the outcome of his extraordinary life, you can bet that Abraham never regretted his decision to follow God. You won't regret it, either!

Prayer: Lord, I ask Your forgiveness for the times I've failed to follow Your leading because of fear or stubbornness. Give me the courage and willingness I need to be sensitive to Your leading and to obey Your every command. If it's not Your will to show me the "big picture" right now, then show me enough to encourage me to take the first steps toward doing Your will. Thank You for the blessings that are up ahead for me!
