For our 7th annual Highlighting feature, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December. Normally, we select our top 25 most anticipated releases for the whole year, but we realize that it's tough to really gauge EVERYTHING that may release throughout a given year when we're making the list in January. So, for 2012, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December, and we're using this format again for 2013. Also, each list contains 15 artists/releases for a total of 30 in total for 2013.

PLEASE NOTE:
We've already selected the first fifteen artists, so please click here to check those out. If you think an artist may be missing on this list, please keep in mind they may have made our list for the first half of the year before their release date was pushed back to the latter half of the year (like Switchfoot, Five Iron Frenzy and Relient K, for example). Without further ado, we give you Highlighting Second-Half 2013!

#13. Jason Gray
untitled

Release Date: Late 2013
Despite the fact that Gray has been releasing albums since 1997, I feel like this particular Minnesotan singer songwriter has still only touched the surface of his potential. Comparisons to Steven Curtis Chapman and Matthew West tend to do that, I guess. On the heels of his most excellent work to date in A Way to See in the Dark (not to mention a fine Christmas album as well), Gray looks to add to his ever-growing legacy.
        - Mark Rice

It is a rare bird, indeed, that can translate the deepest joys, fears and struggles of the human condition into a three-and-a-half-minute pop song that you can actually tap your feet to. Laboring faithfully at his craft for over a decade as "Christian music's best kept secret," Gray finally entered the public consciousness with his 2010 breakout single, "More Like Falling in Love" from the absolutely sparkling Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue album. With a keen insight, razor-sharp melodic savvy and near-poetic writing style - all of which have raised the bar for his latest release to what some might consider impossibly high levels - Gray rightfully remains one of Christian pop's most unique and brightly-shining stars.
        - Bert Gangl

Jason Gray is easily one of the most endearing singer-songwriters in the business today. He's honest, vulnerable, and he has a knack for writing wonderful melodies. In fact, he's starting to move his way right up next to Andrew Peterson in my book. A Way to See in the Dark made my Top 10 list in 2011, and I'm very much open to the possibility of this album doing the same.
        - Timothy Estabrooks
