I probably still wasn't seeing a whole lot of new movies in 1998, but I was starting to realize how amazing Jackie Chan and his stuntwork was. Giving him an American movie starring role alongside the fast-talking Chris Tucker proved to be an inspired choice. The movie is definitely very "90's," but it's still a fun watch today. I still remember my dad taking me to see it in the theater and us both laughing a lot. I later saw it again with two of my closest college friends (well, they were new friends at the time, but we're still close today), and the three of us were the only ones in the theater that night. Fun times!
"War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothin'! Say it again, ya'll!"
Honorable Mentions: The Truman Show. This was another memorable movie that year. I love Jim Carrey, and
The Truman Show was a much more unique role for him (and also a lot less crass than his usual outing). But it's also kind of a melancholy film, so it's not one as joyous to revisit as
Rush Hour.
