Before you scoff at a Godzilla movie topping my 2023 list... have you actually seen Godzilla Minus One? Takashi Yamazaki's monster movie is just barely a monster movie. It's a war drama that just happens to have a huge, destructive lizard on the rampage, too. It's more human than many straight-up dramas, and it's absolutely fantastic. My family and I are super stoked for its sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, releasing later this year.

Honorable Mentions: The only movie that would threaten picking me Godzilla Minus One is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. It's a movie I've liked more with each watch, and it's one of my favorite entries in the franchise (bested only by Fallout). Other highlights, although still wildly polarizing, include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
