11. Ring True

Sin
by Poor Old Lu

What is this?
Thru strange and bad
It does not touch this joy i have

What is this?
Thru future, past
And now or then only love will last

Oh, these words ring true to me

Love the Maker
Crown the King
Who gives us all and makes me sing

Count my blessings
On my knees
So thankful for all everything

Oh, these words ring true to me

My strength is dead
I hope instead
In what will be
In what we'll see

My strength is dead
I hope instead
On every word He's said

This is real
And this is good
To trust in truth now as I should

Give the glory
Give the pain
And let the fall build me again

Oh, these words ring true to me
Oh, these words ring true to me

Who gives us all
(Who gives us all)
And makes me sing?
So thankful for
(So thankful for)
All everything

Behind the Song:
''Ring True' is probably the most 'intentionally' worshipful song that Lu has. Written just before recording 'Sin' (and finished up in the studio), it is probably most notable for its raw sounds, catchy groove, and the fact that Aaron sings lead vocal. 'Ring True' happened to be one of the most successful singles that Lu ever released and was always a fun song for live shows. Though 'Ring True' features Aaron on lead vocals, the lyrics were still written by Scott (who wrote all of the Poor Old Lu lyrics *except* 'Army Guy', which was written by Nick and Aaron). Shortly before laying down the vocal tracks, Aaron was facing some writer's block and asked Scott to the lyrics, if possible. 45 minutes later, or so, 'Ring True' was ready to sing. Very few Poor Old Lu songs contain lyrics as blatant and joyful - a testament to the fact that they were 'divinely inspired'. With emphasis on 'truth', 'thankfulness' and 'reliance upon Him', 'Ring True' continues to be a great song to close your eyes and lift your hands to.' - Poor Old Lu
