04. King of Failures

Rip Open The Skies
by Remedy Drive

by your side i can be rightstanding in your eyes now
by your words i can be made new make me alive now

you came into a broken race
king of failures, took my place

you were bruised/ you took great pains for me to breathe now/
i’m not a slave/ you took my chains and set me free now

king of failures took my place now
i stand upright before your face somehow

2005 - David Zach

Behind the Song:
"I asked Paul to write a guitar part that we could build a song around while we were finishing up writing this album and he comes back with the opening riff of this song and floored me. Then he came up with this idea of letting his guitar repeat over and over again which set the scene for what I see as the most hopeful song on the album. I'm glad the king of the universe said 'I did not come to call the righteous'. There is hope for the broken, hope for the fallen - because the call for a new life has sounded for the failures. We don't have to stay broken forever. The words of redemption, the words that formed the universe, are the same words that can make us new. the bruises and the stripes, the spear in the side and up into the heart of redemption - these wounds have created a new life, a new way of living - brand new - not just a repaired, dusted off, cleaned up heart but a new one. The call is to a new way of relating. Friendships, marriages, acquaintances, classmates and co-workers. our broken habits - our obsessions - our failures - bent on our own way and our own thing - we're selfish creatures enthroning ourselves at the center of our own universe. Here's the hope for a new creation - we are the banished souls that stand outside in darkness but we can be right standing by the side and in the eyes of the king of the universe because the king of the universe decided to the be king of failures and took our place." - David Zach (Remedy Drive)
