NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Premiering in select theaters across the country for a one-night-only cinema engagement last week, "Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark" was the #1 per screen average in ticket sales and #5 movie in America on October 27.* Garnering sellouts in more than 125 theaters nationwide, the documentary will return to the big screen for a special encore showing November 17.
Presented by Fathom Events and Fuseic Entertainment, "Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark" is a deeply personal glimpse into the life of the groundbreaking Christian humorist and best-selling female comedian of all-time. Chronicling a series of tragic circumstances in Pierce's life, including the loss of her husband, she perseveres-her signature wit always intact-hoping to inspire and encourage others with her story.
"I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the incredible reaction and immense support for the film," said Pierce. "Life's not perfect-I've had to endure pain, depression, and grief-but I want to share my story to give others Hope. I am very pleased many more will be able to take part in an important national dialogue about grief, mental illness and faith when 'Laughing in the Dark' returns to theaters on November 17."
"Ephesians 5 says that God is able to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think," says Rick Altizer, "Laughing in the Dark" director and co-founder of Fuseic Entertainment. "I am so grateful Chonda allowed me to show her vulnerability and honesty. Her transparency takes this film beyond mere entertainment and people are being touched and encouraged through her journey. This is how God chooses to work. From death comes life. Resurrection is shared."
Chonda Pierce has been making people laugh for more than two decades with her winning combination of fierce wit and southern charm. The Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) best-selling female comedian of all time, Pierce has earned five Daytime Emmy® Award nominations, performs in countless churches around the country each year, and is ranked among Pollstar's top-selling live performers with six Platinum DVDs and three Gold DVDs to her credit.
