Small Step Records is proud to announce the release of “Bona Fide Fake,” the new dance-worthy, pop punk single from Los Angeles-based artist Chives McAlister, out now on all major streaming platforms.
“Bona Fide Fake” marks the third single since Chives’ last EP, Refrigerator Worthy, and showcases his raw, introspective lyricism with a cathartic pop punk vibe.
“I realize I’m a bona fide fake / And the consequence of my disregard is a price I’ve yet to pay…”
For fans of Mayday Parade, Go Radio, and Relient K, Chives’ signature style blends vulnerability with purpose-filled songwriting, as he navigates themes of self-doubt, accountability, and family life. “Bona Fide Fake” is both a confessional and a rallying cry for all men, husbands, and fathers.
Chives McAlister is the solo passion project of Erik Williams (formerly of Cold Weather Kids), a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Los Angeles, CA. With roots in everything from jazz fusion to metalcore, Erik’s heart always returns to pop punk. His musical journey began with a drum kit at 13, but a chance win of a bass guitar at the Denver Warped Tour in 2007 sparked his love for songwriting. Since then, all in true DIY fashion, Chives McAlister has become his outlet for wholesome, heartfelt, high-energy songs, perfectly nested within the independent focused, Small Step Records.
