Last year, Passion did something unique by not releasing a new album. Instead, the collective added six songs to Call on Heaven, their 2024 project, essentially turning it into a deluxe edition. Honestly? I wasn't a fan of that at all. To an extent, I get it. The theme of last year's conference was "We're Still Calling On Heaven," continuing the moment from 2024. But it didn't feel like the proper new project we've come to expect from the Atlanta group. Fresh from Passion '26, Just That Good arrives as Passion's latest 10-song album, featuring the collective and some familiar faces. After a year without a true new album, my expectations were high. Turns out, maybe too high.
Just That Good, the title track led by Kristian Stanfill, is a solid, upbeat worship song. The verses feel lyrically unique, fast and jumpy compared to most corporate worship songs. It's easily one of my favorites on the project. The chorus is the highlight: "'Cause You're just that good / just that faithful / And You're just that kind, I'm so grateful / That You saved my life, like You said You would / So with my hands up high, heart abandoned / And a faith on fire, singing and dancing / 'Cause You saved my life like You said You would / 'Cause You're just, 'cause You're just that good."
"The Blood," led by JJ Hasulube, is another solid track. Most people in the worship sphere have heard this one before; Bethel recorded it with Mitch Wong in 2022, and David Funk did his version in 2024. Hasulube brings a unique voice and fiery energy to a familiar anthem. The lyrics hit every time: "Does anybody wanna be holy, righteous / Purified and spotless? / Let me tell you / It's only by the blood / Does anybody want to be worthy, forgiven / Justified, really living? / Let me tell you / It's only by the blood." That said, this isn't my favorite version. There was a lot of hype around this being the definitive conference anthem, and it lands more like an extended cut with a cool tag by Hasulube. There's nothing wrong with that; it just doesn't move the needle the way the marketing suggested it would. I'll take the 2024 David Funk version.
"What A Worthy Name," led by the incredible Chidima, is arguably the best song on the project. It boasts beautiful lyrics and effortless vocals that float and roar when they need to. The chorus lands strong, but the bridge is where it really takes off: "On Your head, the victor's crown / Hell retreats and Heaven shouts / At the Name, the Name of Jesus / Risen King of righteousness / Knees will bow and tongues confess / At the Name, the Name of Jesus / On this rock, the church will stand / Songs of joy will rise again / At the Name, the Name of Jesus / Christ will reign forevermore / All the saints and angels roar / At the Name, the Name of Jesus." This one sits squarely in Passion's wheelhouse, lyrically and musically. Churches are going to love it.
"Watch Him Work," led by Landon Wolfe, has a catchy chorus I dig. "Holy and Pleasing," by Melodie Malone, and "Greatness," by Brooke Ligertwood, are both simple and easy. They do what they're supposed to do. The remaining four tracks don't do much for me. I'd honestly trade a couple of them for more time with Chidima, Stanfill, or Hasulube.
Just That Good falls short of what I was hoping for. Some of these songs will get regular replays, but the rest of the project, not so much. With the Passion Conference's 30th anniversary on the horizon, I'm hoping the next album hits the right notes.
