One of Pipe Bomb's signature moves is to deliver a gut punch of raw, chaotic metalcore and then leave you wanting more. Once "Bliss" starts, the listener is battered with some of the most intense sounds from the project yet. The first 15 seconds (and some of the last 10) consist of blast beats, merciless guitars, and unapologetic lyrics screaming about the sad state of living as a nihilist. That's another of Layton's signature moves: deep-cutting, honest lyricism about things that plague life and even Christianity. Here, he mocks the nihilist viewpoint and the pointlessness of it: "You're far too sure to be wrong / but nothing's left when you're gone / at least you know that you're right, right? / living with a wounded start / dying with a masochist heart." The song is short, but it hits hard in every way and leaves an impression.
"Bliss" is the third Pipe Bomb single since his last EP, Stomp. It's not yet clear if this is the first single from the new LP or if "Concrete" and "Hate Club" will be there as well, but what is very clear is that all three singles point to what is sure to be an amazing LP and almost definitely a lock for my top ten albums list. Take a minute to listen to "Bliss" and get ready for an incredible full-length in Hell Hole.
