VERSE 1
Now life slips and passes through your fingertips
In life’s grips you can tear along the seams and rip
And just give it up yes you can put it all down
Or you can keep picking up the pieces off the ground
You know when life comes you gotta be ready to answer the call
And stand up for the things you believe or don’t stand at all
Birds spiders snakes liars
From the killers in the streets to the priests in empires
We share the same sky on a rock somewhere in space
And we’re all running in this circle that we call the human race
And you know you life takes each one of us eventually
And what’s beyond well that’s a ride that we’ve all yet to see
We get to be just about anything we dream of
The sky’s the limit try and hit it tell me what you dream up
And what you take from life do your part and try and give her
Back all that and more you know this life is like a river

HOOK
Life’s like a river, a river, a river
Like a river, a river, a river
It cuts through the meadows the hills and the mountains and the plains
Like a railroad I’m going through whatever’s in my way

VERSE 2
I grab my paddle and battle against the rising tides
I stand my ground and won’t flounder you know this life is mine
And if all my times of trying they don’t bring me anything
I get back up and keep going and that’s by any means
By many dreams we’re connected together all as one
Far from alone just take a look at what we all have done
And through whatever, together we’re ready to sever the storm
To piece it together wherever it’s torn and mend it again for the babies that’s born
In life, crazy, hopes, and maybes, the doubts and the no’s and I never know where it takes me
And as the days pass slipping through the hour glass
Better live each moment and own it as if it was our last
And so I do unto others as I’d have done to me
And keep on living in the rhythm of a different beat
And all I take from life I always try and give her
Back and all that and more you know this life is like a river

HOOK

VERSE 3
Like a river I seem to wander around
Got seasons where I’m up and seasons where I’m down
Like a river I seem to cut my own path
Got reasons I can cry and reasons I can laugh
Like a river always be two sides
One can judge to his left but then be blind to his right
Walk on water like I’m standing next to God
Walk on water with the father I am standing next to God
In a river, yet this water don’t wet
An ancient euphemism that I still don’t get
Right off the cliff the falls the feeling of withdrawal
I call upon the water, to seem to draw us all
It’s a river and I just watch it flow by
Got your feet up in the water but you can’t swim unless you try
And you can die no lie hear the roar of the river
Don’t take from the water any more than you can give her
