Was given a promise but struggled to know
If the promise was certain or just some cruel lie
So he'd go out and look at the sky

He wanted a child his line to pass on
But the years kept on passing no child did come
And as he got older his hopes start to die
Still he'd go out and look at the sky

Look up at the stars and consider their shining
And count them all up through the tears you've been crying
He knows all their names and He know you've been trying to see

He tried to take matters into his own hands
And force things to happen according to plan
But the more that he forced the more things went awry
About broke him to look at the sky

He sewed some regrets and he reaped him some pain
But the good Lord was faithful despite his mistakes

Brought him outside to look at the sky

If you walk out alone on a clear summer night
